Santos

This was our first outing outside of Sao Paulo.  Susan & John Tanner, President of the Sao Paulo South Mission, took us and the Binghams on one of their visits to Santos at the far end of their mission.  It's right on the coast and was developed because the coffee exports from Sao Paulo were shipped out of the Santos ports. The Bingham's son is married to the Tanner's daughter, so there are 4 children in Utah that are grandparentless.  (Consider yourselves lucky!)  You probably remember that Sister Tanner followed Margaret Nadauld as YW President.

   

                                  

We enjoyed tasty Brazilian Pastels.  Similar, but better than, hot pockets.

 We took a ride up to the top of the mountain on a funicular.
(Remember the one in Switzerland, Lindsay & William?)

 We enjoyed the view from the top at a little restaurant there....

 there was also a little old church, probably Catholic, the dominant religion here. 

 Then we took a chair lift ride over the dense forest up to the top of
another lookout point.  (This one was really spectacular!)

 We had a sandwich as we overlooked the coastline and a small island. 

 Santos is a beautiful city! We had a great day trip.
