Food Shopping

It's not hard to find good food in São Paulo!
There is plenty of choice at the Walmart just a few blocks up the street.

However, Pão de Acuçár is even closer, so we go there more often.
They display their fruits with individual wrappers.  You can't find that at Dan's!

Every morning the fruit baskets are re-stocked.

Stores cater to the idosos (old people), handicapped, pregnant, and those with young children by having a special cashier just for them.  There is even a bench where you can sit and rest while you wait your turn.
However, the place we buy the most produce and find the best prices is at the Friday Market, a short bus ride (or a rather long walk) down a busy road, Francisco Morato.

You can buy a head of lettuce like this for about 60 cents.

Then you have to bring all your produce back to the apartment
and soak it in a bleach solution before you can eat it.

  1. Bleach solution.....because of pesticides? Or because their water has parasites? I probably should be washing my stuff off better here!
